Jet Fighters
The next stage was Advanced Flying Training at R.A.F. Valley on Anglesey in Wales. Once again I was ahead of the introduction of two seater Vampires, so the Dual Training flights with an instructor were in the twin engined Meteor T7. However, I went solo on this single seat Vampire Mk.V. The instructor just leaned into the cockpit as I was strapping in and some ground crew leaned on the booms to lift the nosewheel about a foot off the ground. "There you are", he said, "That is your landing attitude, Off you go!". Reminded me a bit of my Glider Solo!!
