I don't have any pictures from my O.C.U. (Operational Conversion Unit). It was at Chivenor in north Devon and while I was there, I had a bit of a fright one day. But, it all turned out alright in the end and I was given something called a "Green Endorsement" for my Logbook.

I was lucky to see the airfield, because by that time the Station Commander was on the R/T and he ordered me to "Bale out if you can not see the field when you reach 2000 feet".

The bale out procedure in the Vampire V was to jetison the canopy, roll to inverted, undo the seat harness and kick the stick forwards to throw you down and out of the aeroplane.

I was pleased that I didn't have to do that!!
